Crawford Bay, British Columbia
Crawford Bay is a small community on the east shore of Kootenay Lake in the Central Kootenay region of southeastern British Columbia. Getting here is part of the experience — the east shore is reached via the Kootenay Lake Ferry from Balfour, a 35-minute crossing that's the longest free ferry in Canada. The drive along the east shore is slow, winding, and deeply scenic, with the Purcell Mountains rising directly from the lake.
The climate is interior-mountain temperate: warm, sunny summers (highs in the mid to high 20s°C), spectacular fall colour in late September and October, and relatively mild, snowy winters at lake level. The lake itself is vast — 104 km long — and stays swimmably cool through summer.
The area is known for its artisan community — Crawford Bay and nearby Gray Creek host a cluster of working craftspeople including a traditional broom-maker, blacksmith, glass studio, and pottery. The region is also known for golf: the championship course at Kokanee Springs is one of the signature courses in the Kootenays. Nearby hiking includes the Pilot Bay Peninsula and the Hidden Falls trails.

She was extremely pleasant and went above and beyond to make things as seamless and smooth for us as she could. She even stayed late to show us to our room! The golf was amazing. Great balance between fun and forgiving while being a challeng…”

“An absolute amazing experience. The courses are gorgeous, rooms are spacious and clean, and the staff (especially Tracy) are wonderful. We arrived way before our check in time and the ladies let us check in early with no issues. We were even able to move up our tee time and get on the course early. The only downside I would say was the food at their restaurant, Refresh. We w…”

“Great facility. Golf course is a must! Spectacular views and in great shape. The restaurant has an extensive menu, friendly staff and amazing food. We stayed in the new campground which was very quiet and clean! Put Kokanee Springs in your travel destination.”
