Edson is a small town in west-central Alberta, about halfway between Edmonton and Jasper National Park along the Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16). It sits in the McLeod River valley, in rolling foothills country that marks the transition from prairie farmland to the Rocky Mountain foothills.
The area is well-known within Alberta's OHV and ATV community — the surrounding Crown land offers an extensive network of trails, lakes, and backcountry access routes. Summers are warm but not hot (highs typically in the low to mid 20s°C), with long daylight for trail riding, fishing, and forest exploration. Winters are cold and snowy, typical of west-central Alberta.
Edson has the essential services of a highway town — groceries, fuel, diners, and the small-town basics. A two-hour drive west puts you at the gates of Jasper National Park; two hours east is the Edmonton metro area. The McLeod River itself is productive for trout and grayling, and Obed Lake Provincial Park is within easy reach for day visits.

“I would highly recommend Pinnacle Trails Resort if you are looking for a good place to call your second home for the summer! Or if you’re looking for a good spot to go camping for a weekend. The staff, location and amenities are amazing! Thank you to Fred for all that you do to keep the place running smoothly!”

“As a seasonal resort this place would be a great family destination. As a “weekender” or occasional camper you’re treated like a second class citizen. All our interactions with staff were friendly and courteous however it’s very obvious that the goal of this place is to fill all their lots up as leased seasonal lots. “We have been coming here every summer for the past 5 years, the location is close and the property is pretty well maintained. Our girls love the beach/swimming area.”
