Salmon Arm area, British Columbia
White Lake is a small, forested freshwater lake in the Shuswap region of interior British Columbia, a short drive southwest of Salmon Arm. Tucked into rolling hills between the Thompson and Shuswap watersheds, it's quieter and cooler than the larger Okanagan and Shuswap lake valleys — a known trout-fishing destination among BC anglers, with strong populations of rainbow and eastern brook trout.
The climate here is interior-BC mild: warm but not blazing summers (daytime highs typically in the mid-20s°C), cool nights, and short mild winters. The surrounding landscape is classic interior forest — lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, and aspen — with low ridgelines and quiet backroads. Wildlife is common; expect to share the shoreline with deer, moose, loons, and osprey.
Salmon Arm is the closest full-service town (~30 km north), offering groceries, gas, and restaurants. Farther afield are the Shuswap Lake system (40 km northeast), Kamloops (~100 km west), and the Monashee mountain country to the east. This is quieter, cabin-country travel — better suited to a book-on-the-dock pace than a lake-party one.

“We had a wonderful afternoon and evening on our way back to Vancouver! Could have easier stayed a few days. Liz and her family are so welcoming and helpful and the facilities are wonderful. We loved our quick little stop and even saw our first wild beaver!”
